Rapper Drake brings concert tour to OU on April 15

With the spring concert season drawing ever nearer, tickets are on sale now for the Oakland University Student Program Board’s annual Meadow Brook Hall Music Festival show, featuring Drake on Thursday, April 15.

Known for his role as Jimmy Brooks in “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” Drake is now affiliated with Young Money Entertainment, which was founded by Lil Wayne. Drake’s song, "Best I Ever Had," was nominated for the Best Rap Song at the 2010 Grammy awards, where he also performed his hit single "Forever.”

“We chose Drake because he is considered to be one of the best new artists of 2009 and because he is touring with the Campus Consciousness Tour,” said Trang Le, Mainstage chair from the Student Program Board.

In its fifth year, the Campus Consciousness Tour is a half rock – half environmental campaign dedicated to inspiring and activating students to make a positive impact on their community and college.

The Student Program Board organizers hope to have a sold-out show with 5,800 attendees. Previous artists that performed at OU include the All-American Rejects, O.A.R., and Dashboard Confessional.

Drake’s debut album, "Thank Me Later," is set to be released this spring. The album will include collaborations with artists such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Young Jeezy and Jay-Z. He has also collaborated with artists such as Eminem and Timbaland.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. with Drake’s opening acts, "Francis and the Lights" and "k-os."

Pre-sale tickets are now available at a discounted rate for OU students until Friday, March 5, at the Center for Student Activities Window (Located in the basement of the OC).

The pre-sale student tickets are available for $15 lawn seats and $20 pavilion seats, and guest tickets can be purchased for $15 lawn seats and $30 pavilion. At this time, students may only purchase one guest ticket each.
