Album Review: Jill Scott - The Light Of The Sun

It's impossible not to root for Jill Scott. The 'Illa- delphian R&B vet is a self-described "grande dame queen beast" in a genre of models, putting her often-messy personal struggles right up front. The Light of the Sun, Scott's first disc since splitting up with her (now-ex) drummer, recalls that relationship with jazzy, good-natured candor on "Quick." Elsewhere, Scott assays life back on the market in her trademark warm and inviting, if rarely thrilling, neo-soul style – from the old-school hip-hop jam "Shame," which excoriates a man who didn't want her, to the jazz poem "Womanifesto," an ode to her "strong legs that stroll off the 33 bus" and desire for "the rhythm of my space." Scott proves it's a nice place to spend time.

KELLY ROWLAND RETURNS TO R&B ROOTS ON NEW ALBUM

Via:Rap-Up.Com

Rico Love is no stranger to working with Kelly Rowland, having penned the Destiny’s Child member’s 2010 dance hit “Commander” as well as the sizzling, Jim Jonsin-produced “Motivation,” the first single from her forthcoming album due this summer.

While Kelly’s foray into dance last year may have thrown her stateside fans for a loop, overseas they welcomed the change. But Rico, who’s crafted about 10 to 12 songs for the album, says she’s returning to her R&B roots these days.

“‘Commander’ overseas was the No. 1 dance record and No. 1 in airplay, so it did very well in other countries,” the hitmaker tells Rap-Up.com. “They didn’t release it here in the States officially. But I think ‘Motivation’ speaks to her core fans. It’s soul, it’s sexual, it’s Kelly kinda taking a stance and being a lot more sexual and emotional like the Kelly [her fans] fell in love with.”

Fans can expect to hear elements of both classy and sassy on her third solo LP. While Kelly will be driving down the same lane of the radio-friendly R&B tunes that she crafted with BeyoncĂ© and Michelle Williams, she’ll also make pit stops on the dance side of the road.

“I think it’s a good collaboration of both,” Rico shares. “I want to make sure we’re clear that there’s no indecisiveness or scatterbrained type of vibe. Being an artist, what happens is you start going through different things and you start enjoying different parts of your life and start reminiscing and remembering, and that’s what the studio experience is about… Sometimes you start here and end up here, but that’s where the music takes you. I think it’s gonna be leaning toward the urban rhythmic side.”

While a tracklisting has yet to be finalized, Rico is confident that “Love Is the Greatest,” a soulful tune he wrote with a distinct reggae vibe, will make the cut.

“I did that with Salaam Remi,” he reveals. “It just feels so good. It showcases her vocals. I take pride in vocals and I take pride in producing vocals and pulling out the best vocals I can out of all the artists I work with. To me, the artist is the instrument. So if I’m writing a melody and coming up with an idea, I have to make sure I coach [an artist] and push them to a level where everybody singing the song believes it. Every time you hear Kelly sing a song, you should feel like she wrote it because she means it that much.”

JoJo Reveals Title Of New Album

The storm has finally passed for JoJo. After years of weathering label drama, the songbird is finally ready to return to music. In a viral video, the 20-year-old revealed the new title of her third album, "Jumping Trains", named after one of her favorite songs on the upcoming Interscope Records project.

“My third album will be called Jumping Trains and it’s very symbolic for a variety of reasons,” explained JoJo.

“Moving from Boston to L.A., transitioning from being a girl to being a young woman, living on my own, taking a different direction sonically, and just really finding myself and just jumping into a new chapter of life.”

The album, her first since 2006’s The High Road, was previously titled All I Want Is Everything. She will announce the first single and shoot a video in the coming weeks. To hold over her patient fans, JoJo released a free mixtape Can’t Take That Away From Me via Rap-Up.com last year.

Album Review: Jennifer Hudson - I Remember Me

After winning a Grammy for best new artist in 2008 then getting married in 2009 and having a baby in 2010 Jennifer Hudson has finally hit us with some more music with her powerhouse vocals.

“I Remember Me” is a feel good album; it’s for an older music lover but anyone with a mature since in music will love. With song written by Alicia Key, R.Kelly, and Jennifer Hudson herself the song turns out a lot of uplifting music with songs like “Angel”, “Everybody Needs Love”, and “Don’t Look Down” as well as songs that will have your head moving like “No One Gonna Love You”, and “Why It Is So Hard”.

This over all Albums is great and as of now it is number 3 on the itunes charts with her competition being another powerhouse Chris Brown make people wonder where will she be on the Billboard Charts.

“I Remember Me” I would have to say #BuyTheAlbum!

Lil Wayne is about to take over. After a long wait, the Young Money leader has announced an official release date for Tha Carter IV.

Following the release of his Cory Gunz-assisted single “6 Foot 7 Foot,” Weezy explained that his highly-anticipated album is already in the can and will drop on May 16. “Tha Carter IV is done,” he told MTV News. “All they need to do is tell [manager Cortez Bryant] to stop sitting on it. Tez, stop sitting on Tha Carter IV and put the album out.”

Bryant confirmed the release date last night while backstage at the “I Am Music II” tour kickoff in Providence, Rhode Island. “May 16, believe that,” added Tunechi. “It can come out tomorrow ’cause I’m so finished … Tha Carter IV will be dropping May 16. If you’re not doing anything, do me.”

Album Review: Marsha Ambrosius - Late Night & Early Mornings

Late Nights, & Early Mornings is a understatement!

Marsha Ambrosius first solo album titled "Late Nights, And Early Mornings" is fulled with different emotions from something we all know too well Love, to something that seems to be very common feeling in us all "Anger". This London native first hit the U.S music scene in 2002 with a music Duo titled "Floetry" with hit songs such as "Say Yes", "Gettin' Late", "Super Star" ft. Common, and "Lay Down". After five Grammy Nominations The Duo split to venture off into other audiences.

"I titled this album late night and early morning because in the process of making the album there were a lot of late night, and early morning" said by Marsha on Bet's 106& Park (Music Matter Monday) this being the she did her first live performance of "Far Away" a single from her album.

When turning the album on I she hit you with a very sensual introduction titled "Anticipation" following that you get the very sexy side of Marsha with two songs titled " With You" which most of the song is Marsha Moaning in a very tasteful way.after that we get the song that's titled after the album "Late Night, and Early Mornings" yet another sexual song. at this point of the album you start to think that it's going to be all about sex but lucky it's not. "I Hope She Cheats On You(With A Basketball Player)", and "Far Away" are the two single that are currently getting the most radio play on urban radio stations. Skipping a few songs we get to my favorite song off the album titled "Stay" which is a mid Tempo song for the old head, and something I was happy to see on the album was that she re-did the song that she wrote for the late great Micheal Jackson title "Butterflies"

This Album is good but there are a few songs that I will truly advise to skip.

I give the Album a 3 1/2 of of 5

Dawn Richard Getting Ready For Solo Album

Dawn Richard has toured the world and sold platinum records as part of Diddy-Dirty Money and Danity Kane, but she’s ready for her moment in the spotlight. The caged songbird is finally spreading her wings and going solo.

Following the release of her mixtape #ATellTaleHeart, Dawn is slated to release her debut solo album on Bad Boy/Interscope Records this fall. “I’ve been incredibly lucky to have been in two amazing groups, but I feel like I’ve never had the opportunity to show the world what I can do on my own,” says the 27-year-old singer-songwriter.

She gave fans a preview of what they can expect with her honest, soul-baring mixtape released on Valentine’s Day. “Prelude to a Tell Tale Heart is the soundtrack to my heart. It’s soulful, it’s raw, it’s real,” she explains.

Dawn is currently putting in work as one-third of Diddy-Dirty Money, with plans to hit the road on the “Coming Home” tour, kicking off April 13 in Minneapolis. In anticipation of the trek around the country, fans can catch Diddy, Dawn, and Kalenna performing on “American Idol” this Thursday.

Album Review: Adele - 21

Adele second album titled "21" is an amazing work of art. full of emotions, and beautiful imagery. from beginning to end Adele bears her soul by singing about love, relationships, and heart break.

Starting off with her 1st Single "Rolling In The Deep" which has a very indie sound to it but yet still very poppy, and radio friendly. Followed by an song titled "Rumor Has It" has an ultra dope vintage sound to it like something from the era of DooWops. Now we come to one of my personal favorite songs on the album titled "Turning Tables" which speaks about a relationship that's Topsy-Terby, and how she's ready to just give up. this ballet is amazing and it shows why Adele is such an Rising Legend. "Set Fire To The Rain" is set to be the second single form the album yet another beautiful song. "He Won't Go" a very urban song, also on of my favorite tracks on the album. The melody change between the versus and the course are amazing.

That is just to name a few of the AMAZING songs from "21". This album seems to be more personal, and darker the her debut album titled "19", but yet still a solid piece of art.

Buy it......
