My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women In Hip Hop airs on BET, Aug 30th

On August 30th, BET will air its first ever original music documentary special, My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women In Hip Hop.

Featuring interviews with music executives, journalists and artists (including Missy Elliott, Eve, Trina, Rah Digga, MC Lyte, Yo Yo and Questlove, along with Hip Hop moguls Jermaine Dupri, Russell Simmons and Kevin Liles), the documentary explores “how rap music has affected female MCs of the past and present.”

The BET special examines gender-specific differences in artistry, marketing, promotion and economics and reveals industry truths about Hip Hop and women that many in the community don’t want to address.

“This is a story that could not be told by one voice. It required a chorus. And although this story is comprehensive, it is still likely one of many truths about the role of women in Hip Hop,” says Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials.

Jennifer Hudson Speaks on The Murders of Her Mother, Brother & Nephew

Jennifer Hudson broke her silence on the murders of her mother, brother and nephew during an interview with VH1′s Behind the Music.

It was surreal. It was like I was outside of myself. I would pray when I got up in the morning and pray before I laid down at night. If I didn’t, I would wake up depress and the day wouldn’t go right. I didn’t watch any TV. I didn’t even want to know what was going on because I already had enough to deal with.

I remember being asked to do a film around that same time and I was like, ‘I have to get adjusted to who I am now. I can’t be another character if I don’t know who I am’

In the segment that aired Monday, she said her son has helped her heal and he reminds her so much of her nephew.

“[My son] makes me feel like the most special person on earth. I want him to get the same love and the same upbringing my mother gave us.”

I can’t imagine having to deal with a tragedy such as hers in the public eye. I’m glad to see she is staying strong…

Trey Songz – My Moment (Episode 1)

It appears anyone and everyone can land a TV show these days; the latest being R&B crooner Trey Songz. The 25 year old is the focus of BET’s new reality series ‘Trey Songz: My Moment’, episode 1 of the which aired after last night’s BET Awards 2010. Check it out below…

Well that was a snoozer, wasn’t it? I mean honestly, it felt like one long commercial hyping him up to be more than he is. What’s more his personality (or lack thereof ) doesn’t translate well on camera – from his monotonous voice, to the disengaged aura he exudes, it just makes the whole concept of him having a reality just felt uber contrived. Such boringness is hardly gonna catapult him past that Gold selling status he kinda seems stuck at at the moment, is it? A shame, as that’s clearly his team’s objective here.
